I don't have a Droid yet, but am seriously considering it (current BB-Storm1 owner...which I like, but the Droid is just something else altogether....besides, more for less?....it's a no-brainer).
Anyway...
For syncing my calendar and contacts, I currently do this...
Account is on Exchange server at work (managed by campus central IT)
Sync work desktop Outlook with Exchange server via direct connection
Sync BB with work desktop Outlook via BB Desktop Manager
Sync BB with home desktop Outlook via BB Desktop Manager
So, at work, I connect Outlook directly with the Exchange server, whereas at home I do not (I do not want to connect directly with my home computer, and prefer just using the web portal to access my e-mail there, yet I like having my calendar and contacts synced between home, work and phone
