What is this .zip file for?

For preparing your _METROPCS_ LG OPTIMUS F6 for
Root and recovery if you soft brick, or just want to go
back to the stock updated firmware...

Why this .zip?

Because UpTest crashes on Windows 7 and above with the
      Windows Enabler
    Beause UpTestModwin contains a trojan
Because both are buggy and lag your best machine horribly!

Do it!

Step 1

Uninstall all the other crap you and restart your computer
If you've modified HOSTS file, undo that.

Step 2

Run a virus scan, since I bet if you had UpTestModwin,
    you probably have the Trojan

Step 3

    Run B2CAppSetup.exe as Administrator

        Let it auto-update!

Step 4

Click "install drivers", install the latest LG Drivers

Step 5

    Restart computer

Step 6

Run B2CAppSetup.exe again. Power off phone and hold the
VOLUME UP BUTTON ONLY (Sound familiar? Download mode!)
and connect the phone to your computer. Let drivers install

Step 7

It will recognize your phone, but say you have the latest
software. This is because you are rooted... Click
"Options" then "Upgrade Recovery". Confirm and let
it sit and download the 12B firmware, then it will flash.
Don't disconnect the cable until it says "Finished".

Step 8

You're in a bootloop. Hold power button then hold VOLUME
UP + HOME + POWER. You should get a text mode menu that
says Factory Reset. Press power button twice. Let it do
    its thing.

Step 9
After the green android you will be in Android setup
screen. Connect to WiFi and connect your Google Account.

Step 10

    Tap your drawer
    Tap Google Play Store
Now set up your Google Account. I have 2 step verification
so I had to check my text messages for the code...
Update everything and switch to WiFi to do this if you can
but make sure to swich it off when you are done. Reason:
WiFi is faster, and if your carrier's got a data limit,
your Google Play Store updates will eat a ton of data.

Step 11

Set up your connection. Why? So that your custom
ROM's mobile data is sure to work later...this also
makes MetroPCS think you're running stock firmware...

If you've got data, and don't really want this step, then
skip this step and step 11. Usually if you don't, these
    steps will work...

Get to an area where you know at least WDCMA (3G will work)
    and where you won't roam.

Note: Removing MyMetro is a bad idea...you can't get a
4G LTE Lock without it, otherwise you'll default to
WDCMA/GSM Auto mode and get stuck with just GSM with no
    working WDCMA (3G)...

Another note: At this stage you can claim that
you haven't rooted your phone to MetroPCS and
possibly get a replacement. Tell them you did a
factory reset thinking it'd fix the radio! Talk
to them and see what you can do, that is, if you
aren't stupid like me and they've got your IMEI
marked as a rooted phone. LOL

Lock it to 2G only (GSM), then Netowrk scan Automatically,
it registers, authenticated using the carrier's stock service app
(Mine is My Metro), find yours on the Play Store. You gotta
ong time for it to actually connect. Once you authenticate, call
your carrier's activation line. I dialed *490, that gave me MetroPCS
    activation line.

Ask for a full account reset. Confirm with them your IMEI number and
your ICC (SIM card number) then ask them to reconfigure the network.
The guy on the line instructed me:

Disable Sync in your notification drawer. This prevents GSM from
          overloading and erroring out.
Turn off the phone after the phone call
        Remove SIM and Battery
        Wait 1 minute
        Replace SIM, then Battery
        Turn phone on
        Select carrier mode LTE/WDCMA/GSM Auto
        Authenticate with "Select Automatically"
Notice how it works this time?
        It will default to WDCMA/GSM
Authenticate again in your carrier app
        WAIT 2 HOURS
If you check again, your network mode should be LTE/WDCMA/GSM Auto

During the 2 hours you'll get a lot of dropped calls, so don't use
          your phone.

Step 12

Connect your phone to your PC. Copy F6Utilities2.apk and
    tr.apk to youur SD card.

Step 13

Go to your File Manager from your app drawer. Browse to
where you put the files and tap on tr.apk. Tap "Package
Installer". You get a prompt that Unknown Sources isn't
enabled, then takes you to the screen, so enable it and then
try again. It should let you install the APK now.

Step 13

Do the same thing for F6Utilites2.apk

Step 14

Run towelroot from your app drawer. Click "Make it Ra1n"
and wait. Just click it once. Reboot and you have root!

Step 15

Install SuperSU from the play store and run it. It'll
ask you to update your su binary, do it using NORMAL METHOD
    otherwise you'll brick...

Step 16

Go get BusyBox installer from the Google Play store and
follow the instructions to install BusyBox...usually
placing it into xbin works for me.

Step 17

Run F6 Utlities from your app drawer and install recovery.
Your phone reboots, then you have recovery and now you've
    got BusyBox too!

Step 18

Download PlayfulGod's Reboot Recovery from the Play Store

Step 19

Run Reboot Recovery and confirm. You're in recovery!

Step 20

Follow instructions to flash the ROM and Kernel and mods
of your choice! I use TWRP, and it works well for me.

Some notes:

Don't install ROMs with bloatware, as when you update
    MyMetro it'll phone home that you're rooted...you won't
get talked to or even prompted, but there is a POSSIBILITY
when you try to hand your phone in for service (f at all)
after KDZ they'll deny you and make you pay. This phone
is near dead developmentally anyway, but for the time
being its nice to be able to get a free or
discount replacement. Assurian will make you pay $85 so
if you get denied, just buy a new one...only $49.

Don't buy Samsung phones! KNOX! Instant phone home to
your carrier instant you root, and it's embedded into the
system, plus sets a local Warranty Bit flag if you try to
put custom recovery...rip off! Screw you Samsung for
slapping all of the developers in the face! Obviously
if we are rooting our phones we know what we are doing!
Stay out of the open source business!

Don't buy iPhones! No support for firmware software deving,
you jailbreak and it breaks all Apple updates! Plus if you
really want to buy an iPhone, think about the moths in
your wallet and bank account afterwards!

Closure

V1.1 UPDATE

Errors with text file:

You want to copy tr.apk and F6Utilities2.apk, I fudged and put F6Utilities2.apk twice. Oops!

I found out that if you go driving with your phone, it helps get you data after you remove your SIM and battery and replace them. That helps! Stop and get a bite to eat, sit somewhere in town, and scan, scan, scan for your carrier. I got my data back this way!

Hey, I'm sort of stuck at step 7. It finished downloading and then the LG Support tool crashed.
Then I tried again and now I keeps telling me that the phone is disconnected.

Actually, up is the one towards the top and down is the one closer to the home key. The instructions for this are actually wrong. The right way to enter Factory Reset mode is to hold DOWN and POWER (no need for Home at all). This is confirmed by LG's info for the Optimus F6: http://www.lg.com/us/support/product-help/doc-1377202486774-en-LGEAI

Thanks for this! I wanted to go back to Stock to give my phone to my wife because I'm switching to a Moto X.
