Fake apps or advertisement apps

Hi guys, still kinda new to all of this... so sorry if this is a repeat post or anything. I've recently started getting like fake apps or apps that create advertisements in my notifications bar. Any ideas for how to stop this from happening? The app just kind of shows up on my far left home page and i get an ad in the notification bar.

It could be aggressive advertising, known as AirPush and similar.

The app which had created that mess might be still on your phone ... recently installed or updated.
To find that culprit app install an AirPush detector like
Lookout Ad Network Detector

If the detector didn't find the culprit, you might additionally search with these AirPush detectors ...
TrustGo Ad Detector
Addons Detector
AirPush Detector

BTW, the "app" icons on home screen are just shortcuts of web sites.
It'll be enough to shove them in the trash can
