formatting sd card problems

okay i have g1 tmobile and im looking at rooting it, i went to format my 2gb sd card (right clicking on it on my computer) but it wont let me. it says 'there is no disk in drive please insert one' but i can double click on the drive and all the info is there?? please help i want to take my phone up a notch as its dull and very slow. im sick of all the bugs.

put the sd card back into your g1.
on your phone go to "settings" then choose "SD card & phone storage"
select "unmount SD card"
then choose "format SD card" from that menu

cheers. cracked that bit. now im trying to work out how to root it, im runnig firmware 1.6 (not sure what that means donut or cupcake) and my build is drc92. anyway when i put on the dreaimg-rc29 i keep getting the serial0 error any ideas??
