Last week we have released our first program for Android platform which is called GeoMark Lite (Free)
GeoMark is a tool for measuring the size of any real objects. GeoMark uses all features of your Android-based device such as camera, GPS, accelerometer and compass to the maximum. You can measure the size of buildings, cars, animals and any inaccessible objects, even trees across the river! You can upload marked geophotos Panoramio (like Panoramio - Photo of Building measurement) and Flickr and share your research with the rest of the world.
In order to achieve a high accuracy level of measurement the following important conditions should be met:
Correct calibration coefficients of camera: horizontal and vertical angles of view. Version 1.00.1043 has calibration coefficients only for the following 4 devices: HTC Hero, Legend, Desire, Acer Liquid. The best way from the point of view of accuracy is to take some photos with your device and send them to us. Your photos have to contain calibration pattern (http://www.geo-mark.com/pattern.pdf). Please print it and make 20 or more photos from distinct viewpoints. Make photos with the highest resolution and the best quality. Send these photos to support@geo-mark.com indicating subject "Calibration". In e-mail please specify the model of your device. We will send you the answer during one working day, settings for your device will appear in the next version of GeoMark and in this table:
Device name / Horizontal angle of view / Vertical angle of view
HTC Legend / 53.13 degrees / 36.6 degrees
HTC Desire / 53.13 degrees / 33.05 degrees
HTC Hero / 49.55 degrees / 34.2 degrees
Acer Liquid / 57.2 degrees / 44.54 degrees
Nexus One /54.36 degrees / 42.27 degrees
Motorola Droid / 54,3 degrees/ 42,0 degrees
HTC Droid Incredible / 49,62 degrees/ 30,84 degrees
Droid X / 47,37 degrees/ 27,7 degrees
We will pay 20$ (via PayPal or other such services) anyone who sends us the data for the device, which is not yet listed in table. We'd like to make public database of angle of view for all Android devices.
