Google Play checks for updates whenever it wants?

Google play has the options to turn off Auto-updade apps, and also Update over Wifi only. So why the heck is it "checking for updates" when I have wifi off and 3g on?

It's annoying because I listen to streaming audio every day when I am out working, and whenever google play starts checking for updates, it robs all the data and makes my audio cut in and out.

Is there anything I can do? Why can't I schedule a time to check for updates?

Its just trying to keep your apps up to date. I don't really think theres anything you can do to prevent it from trying to keep everything updated.

Stay on WIFI whenever possible to help with data speed issues

Turning off auto updating apps just means it wont automatically download and install them. It will still inform you that you are out of date.
