Help Google talk

How do I kill Google Talk. When I go into Settings/Applications/Running Applications.....Google Talk is always enabled. I signed out but doesn't seem to stop it from running. I don;t use it and don;t want it. It may also effect battery life. I did uncheck 'Automatically Sign me in". Nothing helps

Add a new Gmail/Google account. They are directly associated.

The only way to get rid of it is to root the phone and uninstall it.

Do not uninstall google talk. its tied in with the OS pretty deep and causes major issues
