Root Help explaining Roms for a fresh Rooter

Rooted my 2.2ota X successfully. Pretty excited about it. After reading everything i can on this forum for days on end im still lost on ROMS and Themes. I've picked up that certain roms are only compatible with the leaked 2.2 ... etc.. So how do i know which ones will work? and can anyone tell me ... or direct me to beginning to understand roms and themes... i've installed bootstrapper, Rom manager, set cpu.. .. . In all i'd like to have a cool appearance that'll kinda make mine .. mine. . I know some of the roms make it run smoother.... How about changing battery charging toolbars ? Things like that ....
