How to use text-to-speech (TTS) with .txt, .doc or .docx documents?

I have an HTC G2 running Android 2.3.4. I have Quickoffice 3.3.17. I just downloaded the Ivona TTS engine for my phone, but see no option in Quickoffice to use it with my .doc files. Moreover, I've been searching for hours for a word-processing program that includes TTS functionality, to no avail. I've tried updating Quickoffice to 4.0, which I've heard includes TTS, but my phone tells me I have to most current version (perhaps 4.0 is for a different version of Android). ALL I WANT TO DO IS READ DOCUMENTS USING TTS -- a fairly simple and common function, I would assume, but can't figure out how to do it... please help!
