This is really a great thread, i bought an unlocked GS2 and my CSC is I9100OJVKJ1.

I was only able to upgrade from GB ver 2.3.3 to ver 2.3.6 via Kies.

Please I have some questions,
1. Does upgrading my phone to ICS via Odin void my warranty, or
2. Can I just simply wait till JB is out and then upgrade the to that version.

Only if you flash a firmware other than your own, OJV in your case.

ICS firmware, Android 4.0.3 for Bahrain, Kenya and Turkey, has been available for CSC code, OJV, for some time now. See, screenshot...

Try reconnecting your phone to Kies and see if you are offered a further update or do it via Odin as per the instructions in post #1.

Thanks Ironass. I actually stay in Nigeria, maybe that's why we have not received the update yet, cos on the screenshot it shows that version available for Nigeria is 2.3.5.

Please, I know I might sound like a noob but how do I make sure that I flash my phone with the correct version of the firmware (OJV).

That is the reason that you are not able to update to ICS as it has not been released for Nigeria.

The, "correct", version is the version you are on. Any other version will void your warranty and you will no longer be able to update via Kies. However, if this is not important you could flash one of the other OJV firmwares shown in my screenshot, say, Kenya for instance.

You will no longer be able to use Kies to update and will have to use Odin in future if you flash another firmware. Considering that ICS has been out for 9 months and it is still not available for Nigeria, and may never be available, I wouldn't bother waiting another 9 months to see if JB comes to your firmware or not.

I have a Gt-I9100 with CSC being KOR originally,the place that sold it to me installed a OXA (Open Europe) Firmware instead.
I am now looking into flashing a original OXA firmware from sammobile.com but all the open Europe firmwares have a warning label on them (read something about the warning on another forum and I don't want to brick my phone).
My question is if i use the "2012 July Android 4.0.4 I9100XXLQB" Poland version which isn't labeled as bugged will there be any problem with my phone ?
P.S. I live in Romania so that's why i wanted Open Europe.

There is no problem with the Open Europe stock Samsung versions so long as you are careful if you wish to root them. See, here.

This is the first update for these two locations... some 9 months after the first release of ICS!

At this rate, I wouldn't hold my breath for the Jelly Bean update any time soon for these two.

That is the correct 3 storage areas, if I recall correctly, on ICS. Internal of about 2GB for app's. USB storage of about 11GB for onboard storage. SD for removable SD card.

There have been no new updates for ICS for about 2 months now.

That is not to say that there may be the odd, "Johnny-come-lately", ICS update from a carrier.

However, Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, has now been officially released by Samsung for the SGSII and it is not unreasonable to assume that all efforts by Samsung from now on will be devoted to this.

With that in mind, this thread has been relegated to the General forum and has been replaced at the top of the forum in the, "Sticky", section, by the...

I didn't even bother checking what the update was for assuming it could be nothing other than Jelly Bean!

I wanted to make sure it went perfectly so even factory reset my phone, only to find after all the fuss, that Jelly Bean stuff wasn't there!

So, off to my favourite forum, and here I get the answer. We have been duped and made to look like fools. I would NEVER have bothered updating, and all the work I did, for some measly behind the scenes with no extra features update.

I know that I did one thing very wrong. I should have searched the forum FIRST for info on this so called update!!

BTW, does anybody know what this update actually does!!?

Not a lot really... minor bug fixes mainly.

Orange users were on ICS, Android 4.0.4, LPH, released in August 2012 and are now on ICS, Android 4.0.4, LPJ.

For anyone that thinks Orange and T-Mobile are slow... spare a thought for those on Movistar network in Mexico... CSC code TMM... They've only just been updated from Gingerbread to ICS.

I have an S2 GT-I9100P from orange but am having massive diffuculties getting Kies to download on my laptop. I want to upgrade to ICS but still can't work out how to save all my apps,contacts and info onto the laptop or Google.
I am currently running Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the phone is unlocked and the CSC is I9100PORAK13 and I think I could upgrade to Jellybean if I use another version and then retro-download the NFC,modem, Orange etc parts of the firmware.

So what my question is - can you recomend a Phone "upgrade shop" in London I can take use to do it reliably to ICS or preferably Jellybean as i have the computing ability of a gnat....

I am currently running Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the phone is unlocked and the CSC is I9100PORAK13 and I think I could upgrade to Jellybean if I use another version and then retro-download the NFC,modem, Orange etc parts of the firmware.

There has been no JB releases for the, "P", variant what-so-ever and ICS firmware is not directly compatible with JB.

You have 3 options at present...

1. Get a Samsung Service point to update you to the latest release of ICS.

2. Flash a non, "P", variant JB firmware, voiding your warranty, to your phone and lose modem, NFC and Orange add-ons. See, #1.7, here. Only recommended for competent users and requires connection to your computer.

3. Sit tight and wait for Orange to eventually release JB for the, "P", variant and get a Samsung Service point to update it for you under warranty.
