hi all. when I first got my desire I killed apps regularly with atk. then I read about android's memory management and uninstalled atk to let the phone manage itself.
now I find the available RAM can easily drop to under 50mb at which point the phone is noticeably slower and laggy and eventually I am forced to manually reclaim some RAM.

is this right ? am I doing something wrong ?

I don't want to cause problems by using a task killer but don't want the phone performance to drop either, if it can be helped.
