ASUS With Official Support In Our Forums, Promises To Fix Transformer Prime Issues

Official Updates from ASUS -Transformer Prime Issues

Asus promises fix for transformer prime lockups as early as February

Go to the appropriated thread and PM the ASUS Technical Marketing Manager with your serial number and what your issue is. If you don't have any problems at all you can help by letting them know your s/n.

So far the unknown serial number problem was duplicated at Asus and a fix should be coming shortly.

BT/Wifi issues is being investigated and looks like a firmware problem which asus is trying to pin point.

Asus just posted a new thread about random reboots and lockups after ICS update.

well from what I've read and researched most of the problems are software/firmware that can be easily corrected.

GPS unfortunately looks to be a lost cause but I wouldn't use it anyway.

I think the entire thing is overblown.

It's amazing though what firmware can fix. And Asus has been pretty quick to release updates for the Prime. Much better than other manufacturers, IMHO.

I think the WiFi issues (weak wifi, more specifically) might relate to the GPS issues. At least in the sense that they are caused due to the back plate.

If that is true, no software would fix it. Also if it is true, it is not a small problem as this device relies 100% on wifi.

I wouldn't say those issues are overblown.

I've decided to hold onto mine past return window in hopes Asus will release a fix, or accept them for repair (new back) or something. Aside from the weak wifi i really love mine

for people that keep saying weak signal - period - that sounds like a design/hardware issue. for those that say there wifi signal varies greatly without moving and multiple disconnects - that sounds firmware to me. my toshiba laptop did that all the time after i got it - but only at home. after awhile i got annoyed and went to the toshiba website. what do you know, a firmware update. never had the problem again.

    I don't know I get mine Thursday/Friday.

I would suggest to call asus and inquire about replacing the back. You would have to ship it to your nearest asus site tho.

A lot of people had major WiFi connection issues when the OG iPad was first released. I know, because I was one of them. I decided to hang on to mine to see what Apple would do. A firmware update fixed the issue. They had threads just like we see on the Prime. I think Asus can fix with firmware.

I hope firmware will fix Wifi and if it does I will like grab another Prime immediately, however I am skeptical to believe its firmware when rumors of WiFi issues were out before the Prime ever released and Asus even stated the shell reduced GPS and Wifi.

As for the thread on XDA pertaining to Wifi. It seems to me that with Wifi being such a complaint of which Asus is obviously aware, we would be hearing Asus stating this was a firmware issue and not someone who might know someone at Asus who is leaking information. I think Asus would jump at the opportunity to publicly state that firmware is the issue and not design.

Its also possible people are misinterpreting the thread on XDA. It says Wifi/BT dropout issue. I take that as referring specifically to the issue of Wifi rate dropping drastically and or disconnecting completely when streaming audio over BT.

I too hope for the firmware fix. That would be simple enough for us, the users. I personally don't have an issue with WiFi. I could connect to my brother's house next door if I wanted to. I get a good signal from his router. Something I was thinking about though is that he and I are both on U-verse, which uses Wireless G, and not N. Maybe there is something to the N as some have alluded to in other posts.

I know there are serious GPS issues (mine is crap) but the front of the Prime is glass and plastic, so why won't GPS work properly?

I think in the teardown they show the GPS located on the backside of the PCB, which faces the back of the prime. On top of that any type of protective shielding or other material they may have between the PCB and the screen. Add the screen itself into the mix.

I have downloaded the GPS fix (updated from 6.8 to 6.9) which has cured it for me.

Incidentally, I found the proof that the back causes the problem by holding it upside down; it couldn't find any. By holding it the right way up, it found plenty.

So basically if they reverse the GPS card it should fix the problem. They have the stupid thing on backwards! lol

Is it true the new batches of TF201 being shipped now have new back plate to fix the GPS/Wifi issues?

Amazon has TF201 for sale now but I don't know if I should get one because I need a functional GPS.

I got mine at Newegg and it doesn't have a different back plate that I can tell.

If you need a functional GPS than the prime isn't for you.

this OP should really be updated, there's a lot of news from ASUS on the known issues. Just got this on twitter the other day:

The wireless issue only affected some of the first production run units - new ones should be fine

I don't think that post is true. I just got my Prime yesterday 1/31/2012 from Best Buy and if I walk away from my wifi router just 10 feet. The signal bars and speed start to drop. no BT turned on.
    ICS is installed.

    I don't use twitter.

Bottom line is if you have any issues at all you shouldn't hesitate to call technical support. That was the original problem - people had issues but no one was calling it in to Asus. Asus figured it was just people complaining who didn't have the device.
