    I don't think that a GSM phone will work on the VM network.

    Ok. Thanks for your response. I am not sure what GSM means, But let me ask you another question if I may. Is it possible to buy a phone, retail that would be compatible with the services and set up that VM has? What other phones other than what VM offers can I look at that would fall in that category?

    You're welcome :)

    Check out this Wikipedia article for an explanation about GSM phones.

    You can buy unlocked phones, but I don't believe any of them work with Virgin Mobile. I think they've made it to where you have to use one of their branded phones on their network... which keeps high end phones from using a cheap (affordable) carrier. That and VM makes a profit off every VM branded phone you buy.

    I dig it dude...:cool::D

    I did try to research more on the unlocked phones issue... It's upsetting not to have as many choices as the big dogs have, but We were just tired of the outrageous prices we paid and the being tied up in contracts. Its kind of freeing to pay as little as we pay for our phones right now... And I think we got great phones anyway...

    Tell me about it. I have been locked in a two year contract with Verizon, and I am counting down the days when I can dump them for VM. I have been with Verizon since they were PrimeCo in my local area, and I stuck with them when they became Verizon. I did not mind the contracts because Verizon used to have a generous loyalty program where they would give you a $100 credit towards a new phone when you signed up for another 2 years. That got cut to $50, and within this recent 2 year contract, they cut it back to $30. My Droid was damaged by a rain storm, and I had to resort to eBay to replace the phone because I did not want to pay over $500 for a replacement phone off contract. I refused to pay for their insurance, because the sum of the monthly fees plus the deductable (around $90 now) ends up being higher than just paying full price for the phone.

    Granted the big dogs have the newer "cool" phones, but over the long term they are not worth it. After the initial few months of goofing around with my games and other apps on my Droid, I now mainly use the phone for phone calls (gasp! using a phone for making phone calls!), texting, work emails and my work calendar. I sometimes use the Google Maps and Navigation apps, and sometimes I use it to look up something on the internet when I am at the store.

    It is a phone and a PDA, not a life changing piece of electronics that the marketers would like you to believe.

    I know what you mean UnixPimp, I was also with Verizon for a while, we got inducted to Verizon unwillingly as AllTel was bought out by them... In th ebeginning it was ok... I struggled getting a working Blackberry, back then I was into them... Then, my wife and I went on a crusie and inadvertedly made phone calls that were considered roaming out of the coutry calls... The phones we had never bothered to advise us we would incurr extra charges so... we got stuck with a $800.00 bill... Customer service had progressively gone aweful on us... and we decided to bail out getting charged for early contract cancellation... Enuf of Verizon... Then we went onto Sprint. Sprint was a lot better as far as customer service is concerned, but again we got locked onto the two year contracts merry-go-around, and we were also stuck with our family plan, we could not downgrade the plan or anything... We are happy campers with VM for now... Hope you are able to jum ship soon...
