Help Messenger app from optimus to pc

I am a person that does not text but with this new phone I would like to send messages to my wife on the home computer. I would also like for her to to be able to reply. On the home computer I need the program to run in the background so when I do text her the program will pop up and send an audio cue. Does anybody have any suggestions for a simple program for my Optimus V and my computer? I do not think an email will do what I want. Thanks!

I would rather not use a web based program. I was thinking about yahoo messenger or something similar. A program that runs in the background on my pc and becomes active when I send a message.

Sorry, I thought you wanted an SMS app. Any number of IM programs can work, including Gchat that is part of Gmail.

Comes with the phone, can either be accessed through gmail or the desktop client.
