Haven't had a reliable android phone for a while and just got the Samsung Glaxy S5. Is there a way to install apps straight into my sd card? Brand new phone, brand new sd (samsung 64gb EVO micro sd). I have read that some apps can move other apps into the sd but it still holds data into the phone, and I find that really redundant. So, is there a way to install apps and its data from the market straight into the micro sd card?

Not that I am aware of.
AFIK the apps will install to internal memory, and then later some apps can be moved to the SD extSDcard, but the data cannot.

Some apps don't work well when placed on the extSDcard. Has more to do with the new security rules that came along with KitKat than the phones themselves.

An app can create a folder, and it can move data/files to that folder. But as a rule, apps cannot access nor put info/files into folders they have not created.

Moving apps to the sd card was informally introduced popularly by the dev community in Eclair to the Android Market (and definitely prototyped before that), added to Android in Froyo, and removed from Android in Gingerbread.

Apps have always been free to write data to secondary storage, either internal or external sd card, but lazy developers don't bother with the option and just hog the reserved data space in a stunning screw you to their users.

This all has zero to do with KitKat and much to do with the fact that when Verizon choose to carry only the 16 GB SGS4 (who along with Samsung lied outright about the available space for internal user storage), Verizon publicly came out with another bold faced lie and said, don't worry, you don't need the bigger storage model, Apps install just fine on the sd card.

Total bullshit.

This is the answer to putting apps on the external SD. You have to root the phone, which admittedly isn't for everyone, then you can use Link2SD to move apps to external storage.
The free version allows you to move just the apps, while the paid version also lets you move the app data.
Note that even with Link2SD installed, new apps will still be installed to the internal storage first and can then be moved. So you have to keep enough open space on the phone to allow for whatever apps you are installing. This may be an issue mostly with games, where the files can be quite large.
