Move system/notification sounds to internal storage?

Sometimes I notice the custom sounds I've added to the sd card lag behind the actual alerts as they pop on on the phone. I suspect this is because the phone has to access those sounds from the card every time. It makes sense then that if they're stored on the internal memory I shouldn't see this lag, no? Ive got Astro installed but it isn't clear how to do this, if it's possible without root...
