I just updated my hero to the 2.1 leak and so far I like it. Only problem that I have is the live wallpapers. I downloaded some from the market but yet it gives me no option to run them.

The new text to speech is there. In setting second to last install it. (will install to sd card). Then activate it and when in kb press menu on the hard keys and select speak. I just did it and it worked great.

Is there a way to verify which leaked root I have?

You can try running an application that requires root access; if it runs you are rooted. E.g. Titanium backup from the market.

Hey, osmany, thanks for the info. Were you able to get that "speak" icon up with any text/email/Twitter program other than Handcent? That's the only one where it's working for me. I'd love to dictate a few tweets, but right now the only thing I can apparently do is dictate them in Handcent, then copy/paste them over. Thanks.

Funny you say that I have only used it in Handcent.... Hmmmmmmm I also tried looking for it other location and can do.... Let me play with it some more.

how did you get text to speech? i have the new leak but i dont see an icon or setting in handcent to use it. please help???

Just tap the menu key, while in Handcent and you will see the mic icon with the word "Speak".

OH well, I guess I managed to find the new update. I hope someone manages to acquire root access on the new version. After having Damageless' ROM for a week, the "official" update is a real dissapointment.

Isn't that for text to speech, in order to activate the text synthesizer so it reads things to you (e.g. directions in Google Maps), not so you can use speech to text?

Also, Handcent can now read your text messages to you, which is cool.
