Nexus 7 question

I'm considering buying a Nexus 7 but am concerned about the lack of SD card support, but I've heard that when rooted you can then mount usb drives & launch apps/games & media from them is this correct and if so are all apps games/emulators supported.. & is there an upper limit on the size of the usb drive you can use..?
