Since this is a popular program, I thought someone would be able to answer a few quick questions on this before I purchase it:

    1) Is there the option to backup to the SD card (which I am assuming is where you would want your backups to go, so that you do not lose them in case you need to do a hard reset?

    2) Is there an option to back up all data onto your desktop, so that if you lose your phone and need to buy a new one, all the data can be put back onto the new Droid?

    3) Are there any things that you CANNOT back up with this program? Will all the apps that you downloaded from the Market get saved as well as all the data that you entered into these programs? (like will all the notes that you entered into AK Notepad be saved, as well as the program itself?)

Overall, is this one of the better back up programs out there?

    Thanks!
    Cat

I paid for the full version because I love this program so much. You can backup to SD Card (and then copy to a desktop) or to the clouds. It backs up EVERYTHING except for applications that are included with the phone (Maps, Work Email, Gmail, etc.).

I've used it to backup my home screens, bookmarks, dictionary, alarms, applications, etc. Well worth the $5, especially if you plan on rooting and resetting your phone a lot.

If you want to backup programs that are bundled with the phone (such as gmail) check out App Manager. Look for the blue icon.

Thanks for the reply...Sounds like everything I am looking for. Besides, do you really need a program that backs up apps that come with the phone? Wouldn't think so.

I am really looking for a program that will save my data and save me migraines when I need to hard reset for any reason or, God forbid, if I lose my phone completely and need to get a new one (thus the question about backing up onto your desktop, too).

Yeah, MyBackupPro will do everything you need. The free version only lasts 30 days. If you're rooted it can even save application data and restore their links to the market as well as the the apps themselves.

It's important to repeat something that Phateless said: you can back your SD card up to your desktop computer. I think most people miss that point and don't download My Backup Pro because it doesn't back up directly to the computer.

I do a card backup every few days, and it takes all of 2 or 3 minutes.

Very true. Just about everything has a card reader these days. You can also backup to the internet but it takes a while.

Meaning you can use My Backup Pro to back up your SD card to your desktop?

No, you use mybackuppro to backup to your sd card, then take the sd card, put it in the adapter and put that in your computer and copy it to your hard drive.

You can also go to Fry's and buy a USB card reader for $9.

Ok, so there is not an option within My Backup Pro to have your Droid connected to your desktop via USB and backup everything that way, by dragging onto your desktop?

(FYI, thanks for the great reply and pix...this helps! Can you tell I am a bit of a newbie at this?)

As stated earlier, you can backup to your SD card and then copy that backup to your computer. Or you can backup to the cloud.

No worries, we all start somewhere. :)

Correct, no option to sync directly to PC via USB, though you should suggest that to the developer!

You don't even need to go that far. Plug your phone into your computer and turn on USB Storage. Then double-click the "phone drive" you just created, and you'll be looking directly at the phone's SD card file structure.

Just "select all" and copy all the files and folders to your computer.

Even simpler just find the directory where the backups are stored and upload them into your Dropbox space (you need Astro or similar). Assuming you have Dropbox synced on your PC it'll be on your hard drive instantly or as soon as you switch it on.

No cables, no card readers, no pulling out the card, you don't even need to be near your PC and this way its on your SD, your HD and in the cloud.

Simpler than that is an app called Awesome Drop. You start the app on your phone and it asks you for a pin code and gives a web site. You go to the website from your computer and it generates a random pin. Put this pin into your phone. Now you can drag files right to browser window and it downloads them automatically to your phone over wi-fi or 3G.

Great tip, but you've got it backwards. Cat (she/he??) wants to go FROM phone TO computer. Does awesome drop work that way as well?

You're right. I read it wrong. Awesome drop only goes from computer to phone.

I used it last night to transfer some MP3s, then used Linda to move them. The program is freaking sweet, but I wish it was two-way.

He says that my priorities in life are the following (in this order):

    1) My kids
    2) My Fitness/weight lifting
    3) My Droid
    4) Chardonnay
    5) My husband

I tell him to be grateful he made the Top 10 :p

    Sometimes too well!

Honestly, though, I have the Incredible and I have to say, I think it is an absolutely amazing device!!!! I came from using a Windows Mobile device and was really hesitant to leave the Windows platform (God knows why!).

Now, I can't believe it took me so long! I would never look back now! :D

Nothing like some good back and forth about who has the better device...no competition in my house. My husband has a Samsung BlackJack  (yes, I know....pathetic!)

on a good note, I did manage to back up my Droid using the program. Need to go check our your PM and make sure there is nothing I missed.
