Pic Attachments in Messenger Play?

Not sure where to post this. I've got a Samsung Charge and lately whenever I get a pic attachment, I can select the pic and when it comes up in the viewer, there is a little "play" bar across the bottom of the screen with a "pause" a "fast forward" and a "rewind" button. It's almost as if it's being treated as a video clip in stead of a picture image. It will "play" for 5 seconds and then the screen goes black. If I touch the screen again, it repeats.

Is there a setting that got tweaked or can I tell my phone to treat a pic image as a pic image instead of a video clip?

I have the samsung infuse and it does the same thing. don't know how to fix that
