please, could someone tell me if I should be able to use a Garmin ant hrm belt with s5?

I can't seem to be able to get a straight answer on this. I have a hrm strap from a Garmin edge 500 hrm (ant+) that I'd like to pair with the s5, e.g., S Health. Attempts so far have failed and have been getting answers from sprint that would imply that they don't have a clue what I'm talking about.
Anyone know? Thanks.
