Root Pre-Root Backup - Chicken and Egg

Discussion in 'Android Devices' started by Zarch, Jul 13, 2010.

  1. I fancy rooting my Desire and the instructions seem simple enough, but one thing I'm confused about is backing up my phone before beginning the root process.

All the backup suggestions appear to need "root-enabled" tools to complete; Nandroid etc. So its chicken and egg, I need to root to take a backup, but I want to take a backup pre-root???

Granted, there isn't much to save I suppose as all my emails, contacts and apps are attached to my gmail / app brain accounts.

But what about all my messages in say Handcent, i'd like to keep all those etc. Is this possible?

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

I just rooted my Desire successfully yesterday and I used MyBackup Free app which worked fine and restored all my messages.

Just follow the Desire root For Newbies (PC Only) sticky.

That was my question too: Am I able then get my desire exactly to status pre-root? I mean if I need to use warranty to give it back (like re-flash old eclaire with sense)?
So that they do not rocognize unit was rooted?
Or if I just simply want to go back? Is there a way back?
