I know this has probably been asked a million times, but any chance you know when it will be released stateside?
The $64,000 question!
Since the U.S. does not have any unbranded models, which we have seen have a turn around of around 5 or 6 days from the build date, see post
#23 for the UK release, and they do not indulge in lightly branded, carrier, firmwares which have a turnaround of about 21 days... see post
#17 for the
NL9 build of the 18th December.
Therefore, we are left with the medium and heavy carrier branded models which can take considerably longer to modify, add/remove apps and carrier brand. For those U.S. minority variants that are released by Samsung, (
AT&T and
Verizon are not), this means that Samsung must wait until the adapted firmware is returned by the individual carriers for release. Typically, this can take 4-8 weeks from the initial Samsung build date. As we have seen in earlier posts, all of the lightly branded carriers, so far, have opted for the
NL9 build of the
18th Dec; as a suitable, stable, release.
If the U.S. carriers also opt for that build, we should start seeing the first releases of Lollipop, for the U.S. minority variants, sometime at the end of this month or the beginning of Feb:
If, on the other hand, a carrier opted to release on an earlier firmware build, such as the
NL2 or
NL7, (God forbid!), it could be any day now. I am afraid that Samsung will not be able to give you a time line on U.S. carrier releases and neither can I give you a guess-ta-mation without knowing which build they are working on. Let us not forget that some U.S. carriers lost precious time and budget in releasing the ill fated and short lived,
Android 4.4.4, that Samsung chose to avoid, in favour of releasing Lollipop.

Bottom line... that carrier bloatware, modifications and NSA spyware... doesn't just add itself!
Looks as though they just couldn't cram all their extra bloatware and modifications into just one update. Let the fun and games begin!
