Is there a free screen capture app out there I can install for stock DX OTA .596 GB?

Yeah if you dl the dolphin browser. Just search market. Once installed you can dl the extension.

Thanks everyone! Lots of great suggestions, unfortunately the root apps are just easier...looks like I will have to root my son's X and load Drocap

Unfortunately he just loaded the OTA .596 so now I will have to SBF back to Froyo and get it back to .596 rooted.

If you do decide to root:
I used DroCap2 for a while but switched to ShootMe. DroCap2 I had to run over and over for each screen cap, ShootMe will continue to take screen caps on shake until you open and exit. Plus DroCap2 will catch the Superuser message occasionall .

you can just turn the notification off

It says it only for ROOTED devices. OTA ain't.
