Serious ROM leak documented on video!! May Cause fatal sms issue.

This is very strange behavior. Butttt can that issue be exploited to open a back door into the root since this is obviously writing to the ROM if it actually persisting after a hard reset?

It could be possible, or it could be the phone just misreporting available storage memory.

I believe the reason the sms/voicemail issue occurs is because the system intentionally puts up a remote flag to not send any sms/voicemail while low on memory. The problem lies that when you free up memory even if you hard reset the phone it doesn't take down the flag it down unless you change to a phone that communicates the flag already down. That's just my understanding so I could be totally wrong!

thank you. i totally understand the "issue". i had the same "connecting" status on the phone and no leaks were seen then ...and now... i appreciate your concern in making sure i understood...

The bluetooth has to get stuck on "connecting" status for the leak to occur. If it does not it will not leak. Each time it happens and you turn bluetooth off or reset your Hero the ROM loses 5-15mb.

My Jabra SP700 is a 2.0 device.

Yup that sucks but at least they are working on it. Don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for it. Hopefully we will get a few more fixes in that maintenance release.

I just hard reset my (8mb left) phone to get away from this issue and am now feeling the withdrawal of not being able to use my bluetooth headset...

Would it be possible to use a third-party app to get around the issue until the fix comes out? Are there any?

I just discovered I was suffering from this. I did a reset and restored my applications and messages, but left Bluetooth turned off. Seems to be working just fine now. Sure hope this gets patched quick-like. Like above, missing my headset.

Im getting this on my HTC hero too, I've heard that using "sms to mail" app is a way round this issue for now.. but if there are any fixes please let us know!

If you guys are still suffering from this issue upgrade to the Maintenance Release, it fixes it for the most part, except for the occasional failure to connect. No ROM leak though.

Indeed. The update fixed this for me (and some other issues) flawlessly. I recommend you update.
