Stock Camera, or other options?

Hi Guys,

Just want to start a thread,(hope to be a sticky) about the camera applications, is the stock camera the best? or is there better alternatives, for speed and quality?

Im using the 5x Pro Zoom, very quick to take a picture, but quality not too sure, and also on these froyo 2.2 roms, is that stock camera better than 2.1?

I've tried a few alternatives and the one I prefer and use all the time is Vignette. It's had some nice updates recently that have made the UI very easy to handle.

I second that Vignette recommendation. I used the demo version for a bit and liked it so much I just upgraded to the paid version.

Camera Zoom FX for me. Takes better pics than the standard app (better compression is my guess + stability check)
I then use PicSay Pro for quick tweaks before sharing.

I was also impressed by Vignette, and would recommend trying the free versions of both to see which fits what you want to do best.

I'm looking for a replacement camera after installing a 2.2 rom. I miss the HTC one believe it or not, touch anywhere on screen zoom and uncluttered interface are my main needs.

I couldn't find a free version of camera zoom fx on the market

Paid version of Vignette has an option to choose the res of your images. Mines set to 5 mega pixels at the moment.

Has 5 settings on my Desire.

S - 0.3 megapixels
M - 0.8 megapixels
L - 1.9 megapixels
X - 3.1 megapixels
X - 5.0 megapixels

I'm quite fond of the stock camera, to be honest.

Camera isn't as great as my old SE C905 (even the new Vivaz blows compared to the C905) but it's good none the less.

I was going to start a new thread but I might as well add it to this (unless you want me to start a new thread).

What are the best ways to optimise the camera? Does anyone go into the camera settings and adjust the settings?

I know bugger all about photography so any help would be appreciated.

I have a good chunky DSLR and photography is a very serious hobby, so I know a lot about settings etc. But to be honest with you, on a phone camera it makes much more sense just to click the bit you want sharp and press a button, then let the CPU do the rest!

You got the paid version? Should go right up to 5 megapixels, least my version does.
