Help textmessages on Xiaomi Mi 9 are automatically deleted (max. 50)

Hello all,

on my Xiaomi Mi 9, textmessages are automatically deleted.

Example:

I am in an chat-history with one contact, for each new message I am receiving an old message is being deleted.
The maximum quantity of textmessages for this chat-history seems to be 50.

1.) Is it possible to change that setting? How?
2.) Is it possible to restore the messages without having a backup? Probably not

MIUI version:
- MIUI Global 12.0.5. stable 12.0.5.0 (QFAEUXM).

Android version:
- 10 QKQ1.190825.002

Don't know your phone, but you can also backup your messages using sms backup. Never paid attention on how many before things get deleted.

I have been able to solve the issue. Installed Google Messenger and all messages are available again.
