Spot on folks
This was in a trash national newspaper we have here in the UK called The Daily Star. I hasten to add I don't read this, just saw the picture.
Just looked at the BBC report on the premiere. The actors don't seem to be in to the hype. Harrison Ford looks really jaded. Well he is getting on a bit now, and the promotion schedule must be quite hectic.
Harrison Ford has never really loved Star Wars. He wanted Han Solo killed off in the original trilogy, and I understand he was the hardest one to convince to return. He loves the Indiana Jones franchise much more(he even stayed in shape for 20 years between Last Crusade and Crystal Skull in hopes of doing another one.
"There are winking references to Kessel Run parsecs and trash compactors; one character makes their home in a downed AT-AT. C-3P0 is still expositional comic relief. Jumps to hyperspace still pack a visceral impact, and whenever something doesn’t quite seem to make sense, TIE fighters blow it up, so whatever."
Wow this film has got some rave reviews.
Interestingly this article applauds the de-emphasis on CGI effects, which I do agree with. In some ways, the prequels were just too polished, and chock full of special effects, almost to the point of distraction. And it must be quite difficult for actors to play against blue screen backgrounds constantly.
