Root TWRP Recovery does not load properly

I ran into this odd problem while trying to flash a new version of CyanogenMod. When I booted into recovery, it stays on the "Entering Recovery" screen. However, the interface works fine. The only problem is, I have no way of using it since I can't see what I'm tapping.

The newest version of TWRP requires being on the latest firmware for your variant (Sense 4.4.4 at least).

Otherwise, the latest version of TWRP you can use is 2.8.1.0.
