    Hi folks.

I bought a HTC Desire a little while ago, and was sold it as unbranded. I use it on O2, using my old iPhone SIM. There are no O2 apps on the phone, all looks standard Desire supplied apps, but when I boot the phone up, I get an O2 splash screen.

Why I'm asking is, I've still not received the OTA upgrade to 2.2 - I'm still stuck on 2.1update1.

I've tried doing the OTA update via the SD Card, which failed, which makes me think the phone ISN'T unbranded...

So, is my phone really unbranded, or is it an O2 phone?

If you're seeing an O2 screen when you boot the phone instead of the standard HTC "quietly brilliant" screen, that's a clear sign that your phone is branded, imo. Sorry.

Did they sell it as unbranded or unlocked? 2 totally different things. Re-read the description before you do that.

    Tut tut... naughty eBay seller!

It's pretty easy to debrand it though if you want the update quicker, there are tons of guides on here.

I'll see what the seller says, I'm happy for him to swap for a truely unbranded phone, which he may do if I threaten with a PayPal dispute. :D

If he doesn't bite, I may just unbrand anyway.

I bought an unlocked HTC hero, turned out to be locked and branded with a dodgy Orange UK rom which doesn't accept unlock codes.

That was the first phone I rooted.

Indeed. It was a trial at first, but glad I did, cause I've been doing it ever since.
