Root [Verizon] Accept update or root?

I just received a replacement S3 (see my tale of woe here).

It wants to do an update. Is there any harm in that or should I hold off and root instead?

I once made my life vastly more difficult accepting an update before rooting my old DroidX so now I'm gunshy.

I think the latest update is the VRBMF1 to replace the problematic VRBMD3.

What version are you on now?

the update will not harm your phone..
but when you root your phone you may harn your phone if you dont know enogh information about roted phones..

I know the update won't harm my phone. The question is will the update harm my ability to root (as I've experienced in the past.)

In other words can I update and root at my leisure, or should I root right away?
