So far we don't have a Gingerbread update, so no one knows.
But generally Google Android developers try to lock out rooting so that malicious apps cannot root and do destructive things. Like this: http://goo.gl/t2oLb
That's why 2.2.1 was harder to root than 2.2. One of the major reasons for the version change was to lock out the rooting method used for 2.2. Hole found, hole fixed.
