Idea for Concert app

So I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert in columbus tues night, and it got me thinking up some really cool app ideas.

the first one would actually be possible: I was in dire need of another beer but my friends and I were in the middle of a very large crowd on the floor area, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to find them again. What if there was an app to save a group members cell number and locate them by gps on your return trip? they would probably have to enable location on their phone. you could have a couple dots much like google maps that show each of your locations.

the other one is impossible most likely but it would be awesome lol. an app that tells you which beer/food line is the shortest, the prices, and its location

any devs out there wanna take on that first app idea?

Well..the first idea would be hard to do with GPS. I don't think it can be accurate enough. You should look in to CarDar Lite - Android app on AppBrain or try Google Latitude.

I also have an idea for an app. I would love an app that could somehow lock/unlock my car doors and open my trunk. Would be really nice to have if you leave your keys in the car.

Car finders are great if they aren't moving (a beach location, car [duh], spot in the stands, etc)

I've heard that accuracy can be off by about 1-10 meters if there is "noise."

I wonder if Bluetooth might be more accurate. If the distance would not be too great.

The line length thing has been done (sort of), but given the logistics of the problem (how to accurately check wait times, for instance, which are probably estimated by the retailer and stored somewhere that needs to be communicated with), I don't see anyone perfecting this app anytime soon, unless there is some agreement with a retailer that has them relaying info back to a central server, from which the app would track the wait times.

For the First:

Latitude in Google Maps and Loopt both do something like that, but I think the accuracy is the major issue in both cases.

The accuracy is related to how many cell towers you are in range of (AGPS) and whether you have the ability to pick up satellite transmissions (GPS). Either way, both are going to suffer if you are inside.

i have seen an app for Disneyworld where it tells you the wait time to get on rides and where Mickey Mouse is in the park, so maybe it can be done.

Also i went to see Def Leppard (i know i am old) last summer in West Palm Beach and once you went into the concert venue you were handed a card with info to text a number then you got back ringtones and concert pics. pretty cool that was the only time i had seen that before.

I think the concessions app would be pretty infeasible. The client/phone side would be straight forward. But how would you generate the information? The prices/location would be pretty easy (I was about to say not very useful compared to just checking a building mapy, but on second thought ticketmaster/the venue would be pretty easy for them and could be a money spinner). But I don't see any good way of generating the wait time info.

EDIT: if they are using networked POS terminals, they'd be able to tell which are the BUSIEST. Whether that would translate into the ones with the longest lines or not, I don't know.

1. Have everybody use Google Latitude, as mentioned.

2. It might be possible. I'd love that too. I have been going to the Twins new ballpark, and have no clue where each special concessions stand is at in the park. A Target Field app that helps me find he concessions with that ribs sandwich would be awesome. It could use GPS, or just a simple map that plots results of a search would be nice.
