Considering switching to EVO from BB, a few concerns

I am a current BB user but have used multiple smartphones over the last ten years. As boring as my BB is, I keep returning to it because it just works so well (messaging, phone, battery life, PIM.) I briefly tried a Touch Hero to see how I liked Android and, surprisingly, I really liked it. I ended up back with my BB but am now looking at the Evo.

There were a few things I couldn't do on the Hero that I really missed from my Blackberry. Does anyone know if these features are available on the Evo with an App or other option?

1) Search the "Company" field in contacts. It was very annoying that I could only search by name. I frequently will add someone I've met to my contacts as I expand my professional network. It could be several years from now that I need to contact them. I don't remember their name but I remember where they worked. On my BB I just start typing in the company name and it brings up not only names that match what I've entered, but also companies.

2) Multiple Gmail accounts. The gmail app seemed to work ok but only allows one gmail account. The email app doesn't allow for "push." I downloaded the K9 mail app but could never really get it to work right and had multiple problems. I like "push" because of the instant email arrival and because I understand it's better for battery life then "polling."

3) Automatic calendar reminders. I never use calendar reminders. It was extremely annoying every time I created an appointment to have to go through the extra steps of turning off the reminder. Is there really no way to set a default to no reminder?

4) Notification profiles. On my BB I can set up different profiles that control my ring tones/vibrations. For example, I set it to "Normal" and the phone ringer, text, and email notifications are all activated. I have a "Phone only" profile where the phone rings but there is no notification for texts and emails. I have other profiles with different varieties of ringer/vibrations depending on where I am. The Touch basically allows audible or vibrate. At night, I'd like the phone to ring but no text/emails.

Any suggestions?

You can in fact search by organization. Just add either the HTC or Android search widget to one of your homescreens and type the organization name there.

Thanks for the suggestion but this doesn't seem to work. I've tried both the HTC and Android search widgets and they aren't searching organization. I get matching names, emails, texts, and internet searches but not the organization field.

If I add a new organization to a contact, it does work. For those contacts that already have an organization, it doesn't. I just deleted the organization from one and then put it back in. Now she does show up in a search. Looks like I'm going to have to re-enter organizations for all my contacts.

I installed the gmail unread count app. It seemed to work ok for a few days. Today though, email isn't getting new messages on its own. I have to open the app and click refresh to get messages. Any ideas why? Auto sync is on and both google accounts are set to sync. Always on data is selected also.

I think this is a problem with google and the EVO. I have yet to get consistent push email with this phone, which is so frustrating considering google makes the dang OS. I use an iPhone as well and ALWAYS get my email on time with my iPhone.

The company directory is still not working in Android 2.2 at least on my EVO 4G. But the good news is that you dont need it to work. There is a better way. I kept thinking that Google was supposed to be the king of searching, so I could not accept the fact that you cannot atleast search by company name. After doing some digging I found out a way to find contacts by company name.

Press the "+" sign next to "Phone" on your home screen then select "Widgets" next select "Google Search" then select "People" and place the search bar on your home screen. Now you can search your contacts by name, company, number, etc. You can select the contact and see the full contact info for that individual and dial the number from there. You can also have the search pull up related email, texts, etc. when you search for the individuals name.
