Can you install games/apps via email?

I have rooted my captivate, but dont know how to use it yet!! im still a newb to this!
but i found and app called "tattachapkinstaller" where it lets u install apps from gmail. but the problem is when i tried to use the app it would say "install blocked: for security,your phone is set to block installation of application not sourced in android market"
i thought rooting the phone will allow me to?

look up how to sideload ATT has blocked non market apps in the Rom you need to edit a database file from a 0 to 1 i have the steps listed in a post called alternate sideloading method without using SDK
