So I desided to give the app a try since my HDMI cable came in finaly. After waiting over an hour for the movie to load (on wifi hooked up to a cable modem) I hooked up the HDMI cable and started the movie....whats this, just a blue screen on my TV. Verizon and blockbuster couldn't have left this function out, could they? So I spent another 10 min looking for settings with no luck. I decided to look for the movie with a file manager, here it is in the "blockbuster folder" selected to play it with the native player. Now its worki......nope "can not play file". no way!!!.

Yup, not only is the HDMI feed limited to photos and videos but thise videos do NOT include anything from the blockbuster app and the blockbuster app it self does not support HDMI.

If I am not going to be able to play the video on the TV when am I going to watch a movie from this app....on the plain, I don't know about you but I don't normally have over an hour of wifi access as I wait to board a plain. Guess I am going to have to really plan ahead for that application to even be remotely useful.

Why did they lock this down? funny you should ask. I did read somewhere that blockbuster said its because of the product licencing. Ironic that I can get more features out of a pirated movie than I can a legally rented one

I didn't even think to look for the info because I never expected this. Also, its not just that it will not play over HDMI but its the combination of the seemingly uncompressed file and that fact that it only plays on the phone. I have loaded movies formatted for the phone that look good that took less than half the time. It just doesn't seem like it will be useful 98% of the time

the movies that take less time to load do not look good on the TV but are way more practical for phone watching situations. If I load a movie that looks good on my TV it takes a little over an hour. So why is the blockbuster app the worst of both situations?

I did notice the article where I confirmed the app would not play threw the HDMI was before the phone was released. I am not saying I was doop'd just that I cant find a situation where this service/app combo would be handy in most of day to day life

It has been said from the start that Blockbuster would not play over HDMI well before the phone was even released.

This.

Even though it's a ridiculously shitty move on all involved parties' fronts, this information was given several times since the X's press event. Basically, you should be able to stream any and all content you load yourself onto the phone via the HDMI port.

I wouldn't fret though, Blockbuster looks to be declaring bankruptcy by the end of the year, and the way Netflix has picked up momentum in the last couple of years, I'd be surprised not to see a Netflix offering.

If you look there are many ways the offering is integrated and when you register I do believe you subscribe to a service which gives you one free dvd per month delivered to your home like Netflix.

Unlike Netflix's mail service however, you get new releases the day they are released to DVD while Netflix needs to wait 28 days.

Blockbuster is a great service I hope they pull through and offer a streaming service as well to complete the entire package.
