Root Using the working root for 2.1v3 - question about backups

So I plan on using the root system located here: [WORKING] ROOT for all Eris' - xda-developers

If I download MyBackupPro ($4.99), and backup everything...will it keep my settings for my gmail, yahoo, exchange email accounts, etc...? or will I have to go re-enter ALL that info using root?

I am looking forward to overclocking...and I hope the 250mhz increase or whatever will show a noticable difference.

What settings/info are you talking about? I can't speak for the rest, but Gmail is not local... all you have to do is sign in with your phone and the Gmail app does the rest. I have to assume Yahoo is the same. If you mean the POP3 info, then yes you'll need to re-enter that... not worth $5 though just to type a couple things in your phone. I don't even know if that app will do what you want. I think it will just back up your apps, if I'm not mistaken... but that does not include stock apps... for example the HTC Mail app won't work on a non-Sense ROM.

But... I believe there is a way to root without having to wipe and flash a new ROM, isn't there? Simpler and faster than the method you posted... I saw it on XDA a few days ago when I was poking around. It was only like 4 or 5 adb commands and that was it.

Well, that link I posted talks about rooting 2.1v3, and recommends various roms..but also says if all you want is "root", then it gives you ENGTOOLS. Maybe that is what you meant.

If you have not yet purchased the backup, I would suggest looking into free MIQ Live from Best Buy that you can just download from the market.

This backs up all content(contacts, SMS, calender, photos, videos, bookmarks ect.) to a private online account. You can also sign in online and import contacts(outlook, gmail, and others) to your account or manage your phone data, all of which instantly pushes to your phone. Pretty Awesome!

When you need to restore, or even if you switch phones you just download the app again and log in, all your data will be put on your phone.
