Ok so my uncle and I are going to get new phones, were looking into the evo but is this really the right phone.

He's on the road 24/7 (truck driver) and i know navigation/maps on his phone is what he wants and also the ability to download music directly to the phone for when he's bored.

I just want a realiable phone where I have no problems with MMS email or text messages, MMS was the reason I left the hero months ago back to my blackberry.

any input will be appreciated thanks

Hello helo LOL First off, I understand how you and your uncle feel exactly. I came from a berry to palm to android and I am in heaven. This is by far the best phone and OS I have ever used. I sold my ipod the day I got my evo so that answers your question as far as media goes but if he is gonna be on the road ALOT, I highly recommend a car charger.

Also, the market is full of great apps you can download. For instance, you and your uncle can 2way each other from your evos with an app called tikl which is so convenient.

I think you will be in heaven with the evo!

So i'm assuming there is nothing you would complain about this phone? I understand maybe a battery issue but that would be fine with me.
if he is a truck driver, then the biggest question is area coverage. check on that to see if Sprint is a right fit to begin with. If he already has sprint and no issues, then yeah, the EVO will be fine. Tell him to get a car charger. Er I mean truck charger ;)
Coverage is no problem he was using a Palm Treo till recently it gave up on him, but that is definitely going to have to be in his shopping list lol

I'm also a driver. Google Maps works great for me. Helps a lot to use the satellite images to find customers and truck entrances. Sprint coverage hasn't been an issue for me at all.

As for the app to download music. I use "MusicJunk" it's a 3rd party app you can find via Google.

As said, get a 12v cigarette plug charger. I charge mine in the morning and again mid afternoon if I'm using it enough to need a charge. The phone will eat a battery quick when driving through BFE and it goes into roaming (ex, I'm in Utah today...vast nothingness means roaming!!!)

A good case is a very good investment and the screen protector isn't a bad idea either. I saw the video early on of the guy using a razor blade on the screen and it came out without a scratch. Well mine as two scratches from normal use so...

All in all, I couldn't ask for a better phone to have in the truck with me!

Battery is fine for me especially coming from the Pre. I get through a full day easily. It just takes some slight tweaking here and there but GPS will defintely put a dent on it so a wise investment would be a car charger. I am praying case mate comes out with the fuel case for the evo which acts as a charger and a case in one.
