I can't get my Droid X to drop a single bar holding it with two hands wrapped around the entire edges or trying to imitate how the video shows it being held.
I believe there are some other phones, android phones included, that could be effected, but I say this video's bogus unless someone else on this forum can replicate it.
I agree that Apple just seems desperate at this point!
It happened to my Droid X before I got a case on it. All phones do it. I'm glad Apple is stepping up and do this. The media just went nuts over nothing...

Well, it was huge for Apple, but it was more or less blown out of proportion. Just like the Swine Flu that no one cares about. It was less deadly than the normal flu...
I guess my point is that all phones when in the right conditions will lose signal. The media attacked Apple before looking at other phones because Apple is a big target. Apple is showing off the same results with competitors. At least they have the decency to show the iPhone losing bars as well.

Well, I can put my pinkie on the Iphone bottom corner and loose all signal, the fact that the whole hand covering the phone to drop signal on the X just shows how dumb apple pr is. Btw, I don't loose full signal, only 2 bars with that kind of grip in the video, but again, I would never hold it like that anyway.

What the hell Apple. Does anyone hold their phones that way while on a call with that "death grip"? Why doesn't Apple try to duplicate their problem while just using a pinky. Also... why is it that the Droid X in the video show no 3G or 1X? Has someone tampered with it or doctored the video? I think so.
I tried holding the phone that way in my hand and it feels so uncomfortable. I can't imagine anyone naturally holding a phone that way.
Apple is just sorely butt hurt from all the bad PR about their easily-duplicated antenna problem with just one pinky. Solution? Try to bring down the competitors with you.
The Droid X does. Mine lost bars when I held it like that prior to getting a case. I have big hands, so I often notice my phones losing signal because of my grip. I have seen a few other people mentioning that their Droid X's did the same.
Well i must give it to apple, they called
out other phone makers and show signal bars being drop just so all the attention towards them is diverted but yes signals will drop on all cell phones but the difference with the iphone is its a reception problem they lose reception period its not about the signal bars a phone can still function without the bars visible.
comments on engadget are almost 100% ANTI-APPLE. Love it.
One guy said something like this about the Droid X on engadget comments:
1. Death grip - check
2. Zero bars - check
3. Can you hear me now? - CHECK!
The video had an active call if you didn't notice. It never dropped.
The Apple video is clearly flawed. They were on a call. They were in probably an office (people moving in the background). They probably stuffed tinfoil on the back of the phone, or in the person's hand. There was no sound.
I also commented on this. My phone gets 2 bars of reception in my office. With their "grip" I now get 3 bars. So apple has given me a BENEFIT through this video!
It's sad to see Apple/Jobs responding like a 5 year old to their iphone hardware problem. History is repeating itself like jobs v1.0, he'll be ousted from Apple again.
What I want to know is, How the hell is this guy holding the phone like that and presumably squeezing (notice how his fingers flex) and not push the camera button?!!! I cant replicate it because I can't keep the camera from coming on lol!

It is kinda sad that apple wants to say "hey, this is just not our problem alone". i dont know what they did, but other blogs have tried to replicate, even engadet, and they have not been able to, What do they expect really, Failed Antenna plus ATT's network = Failphone!
Rumor is that Apple used a jammer of some sort, or used tinfoil.
Plus those people walking in the background don't add a shred of credibility to apple. Consumer reports at least did a proper test of apple's icrap phone that can kinda-make-calls-but-they-drop-if-it's-held-wrong.
AGAIN, watch the droid x video... they have a call going on the x.... it NEVER drops!
I can replicate this on my X when I'm in an area with not so great signal. I cannot replicate it in an area when I have great signal. I do agree that all phones do this, however Apple's antenna is in an especially vulnerable spot. I don't think it's fair that we all act as if only their product is affected by this, theirs is just in a place that makes it easier to affect.
