When returning a phone for replacement...

What is the best way to go for privacy concerns? I am NOT rooted and only had phone (HTC Aria) for a week.

There is speck of dust or something under the screen which is bugging me and also the phone force closes while texting in landscape mode. Thus, I am wanting to return it for a new Aria.

I have downloaded a few Apps, have a few pictures and the phone is synced to my Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo! and other accounts. Do I need to do anything before returning the phone or will Best Buy wipe it themselves?

  1. Turn the power off. If your HTC Aria is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Hold the Power button until the display turns on
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button to select
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Aria. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

Cool! Thanks.

How about backing up or being able to get the apps I've downloaded already onto the new phone?

One last question, if my Google contact list is updated and already linked to Facebook profiles through my Gmail account, then when I set up my new phone and import Google Contacts everything should be good to go in that department right?

you could try TitaniumBackup
to backup your existing phone and restore your data and apps etc to your new phone.

I'm not rooted but when I think about it, most of the apps I downloaded where free so it's not too big of a deal. I've only have the phone a week, not like I've invested a year of my life into it.

Just hope the new one works like it should!
