reminder notifications

Hey folks. Just purchased a slightly used Eris and I'm liking it so far. I've been reading this forum and learned a ton of valuable info. I think the biggest annoyance for me right now is the lack of a repeating reminder when calls/texts are received. I've seen a few threads regarding this. I have downloaded Missed Call For Android 2.x and also turned on the LED(trackball) flashing notification. Both work initially, but only for about 5-10 minutes and then they will stop flashing. It seems like the Missed Call flashing LED stops working before the trackball stops. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.

Coming from a Blackberry, this was a big deal for me. I didn't need an audible alert, but I did want to be able to glance at my phone and see the LED blink alerting me that I had missed something. I downloaded "Blink" from the market. It doesn't give you audible alerts, but it will make the LED flash (along with the trackball). It only flashes green, but that's fine by me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled Missed Call and installed Blink. Same result. The LED will flash for about 5 minutes, then stop. If I hit the End/Power button to wake the phone the flashing will resume for another 5 minutes and stop again. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm not aware of that would be causing this?

It's weird because I've uninstalled both Missed Call and Blink and just turned on the standard LED(trackball) notification. It does the same thing, although it seems to last a couple minutes longer than the installed apps did before it stops flashing. So I don't think it matters what apps I install. Seems like they might all work, but only for a few minutes. Any other ideas what might be causing this?

Unfortunately, it's doing that by design. There are mixed opinions on this, but the bottom line is, the LED stops flashing after 5 minutes of inactivity. Some say it's designed to save battery life. I call it missing functionality since it's not an option somewhere.

It forces me to use audible reminders in MissedCall and Handcent for my SMS. Of course, my phone resides in my pocket most of the time so I kinda need those anyway. I've found similar results on quite a few root ROMs as well, just so you know.

I know you are new to the Eris and may or may not be considering rooting it. But, I thought I'd share this just in case.

I just realized that Conap's CELB 2.8 ROM keeps the LED going longer than 5 minutes. I've been using this ROM for a while now. I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I just got an email and let my phone sit untouched for almost an hour. The LED stayed lit and flashed properly the entire time.

One thing that is different on this ROM is the LED stays lit for notifications. It stays solid green and blinks amber every few seconds. The funny thing is, it doesn't seem to effect battery life at all. Personally, I like it since the LED on the Eris is tiny in comparison to other phones. So, it makes it easy to notice from across the room.

One other thing to note is the trackball does not light up for notifications in this ROM. It is a known issue. Other than that, the ROM is extremely fast and solid. It's got the best dialer I've seen on any ROM by far. It also comes stock with the Vanilla lockscreen which is more functional to me and allows me to not use a stupid lock pattern all the time. Thanks go out to Conap for an awesome ROM.
