Facebook ver. 1.3 is now out!!

My phone was staying awake after the update, but after a reboot (and I also turned off updating and notifications) and it's not now.

Any notice the new contact sync options? It lets you sync only contacts they are already in your phone.

Any idea how that works? It tries to match up emails/phone numbers with your contact list and if there's a match, it pulls in their facebook info/photos?

What if you want to un-do that?

It's definitely NOT eating up battery. If your battery is hurting, it is caused by something else. Seriously guys, how can you make up stuff like that? Any decent task killer program(one that tells you what apps are actually doing) will show you that this one is completely idle in the background and uses no resources.

Yes it is.. When it is running in background it checks for facebook notification at a regular interval and that eats battery.

yes it is. when i check partial awake usage in spare parts, facebook is at the top and the blue line goes all the way across the screen. don't tell me it's not using battery. "Running" should not be at 100%. I'm going to try a reboot and see if that fixes the problem, as someone suggested.

As far as the contacts go, do you disable the HTC Sense Facebook sync first? Will one take priority over the other or duplicate everything? I'm afraid to try it. Haha.

EDIT: A reboot does not work. It only works until you open Facebook again, then it will continue running until you force close it in "Running Services" (or if you're a user of a task killer).

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never run with both on my phone at once, but the lack of facebook contact syncing without friendstream was one of the things preventing me from using CyanogenMod 6 on my Incredible. I'm very pleased. A little concerned about the battery issue though...

Ok, it's easily confirmed that there's a problem with this app, at least for me on my Droid X.

Refresh and Notifications are both turned off in Facebook.

Reboot phone. Let sit idle for a few minutes, just "Running" in Spare Parts. You'll see phone has been sleeping normally.

Run Facebook.

Let phone sit idle for a few minutes. Run Spare Parts and look at "running" again and you'll see it hasn't stopped running since you started facebook.

Force Close Facebook with your favorite task manager. Let phone sit idle for a few minutes again. Check Spare Parts and you'll see the phone has now started sleeping normally again.

Wow, some real bad coding here, it seems.

Not counting on a fix for this any time soon.

Also, confirmed by many on the facebook page here
Facebook for Android | Facebook

Big problems here.

Also, logging out does allow the phone to sleep again, but of course, that's a big pain.

Instead of logging out completely, I would suggest putting a shortcut to your "Running Services" on one of your screens and stop it from there. Logging out will solve the growing data problem that occurs over time with FB though.

Last time FB was updated, I believe there was another quick bug updated soon after. I hope they do it this time too.

edit: I hope everyone goes to that Facebook page and clicks on "contact developer" on the left side and reports the problem.

Hope so too! The postings over on that facebook page I listed are building up fast. They should get the idea there's a big problem with this app quickly.

I'll just have to remember to stop the app manually for now, but this is killing batteries of people who have no idea what's going on either. Everyone has the fb app on their android phone.

I can also confirm what several others have posted here. Facebook was running in the partial wake listing on my phone AND draining the battery quite a bit actually.
Also, I had synced the contacts, there is no way to undo this unless you delete the app.
Needles to say, I've removed the app from my phone and for the time being just left a bookmark on my mainscreen. Hopefully this fix and drastically improve the facebook app.

I synced my current contacts with facebook and it constantly syncs and links the same facebook contacts to each of my phone contacts. So now on my contact list, each contact has 5 (FIVE!) of the same linked facebook contact...

I am using a Samsung Captivate, is anyone else seeing this problem?
