OK, so I am going to follow these instructions to a tee and download the rootpack mentioned in the 2nd video.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-mo...t-2-1-rooting-video-walkthrough-tutorial.html
Now after this is done and I'm rooted, all I have to do to change to another kernal like
Radioactive FroYo v1.8.12 **9.2 MFLOP** **Moment-Acclaim Hybrid** GPS Workaround
is to copy it to my sd card from my desktop and install it by going into recovery mode?
Or am I going to screw up my phone???
All these rooting threads make it way more confusing with all the code words, tech talk, and mumbo jumbo stuff I simply don't understand.
I really wish someone could write up a simple step by step procedure in laymans terms so that idiots like me can understand without being afraid of doing it.

Or am I going to have to somehow erase/remove the original(rooted) kernal and start from scratch again????
I know some of you are very experienced in this. I just don't want to screw things up and use something I am not going to like.
I also know I can simply revert back to stock, but this rooting has me intrigued.
I went to the SDX forums and got even more confused with the tech talk that made zero sense to me...LOL

I know I will have no problems following the original video and get my phone rooted. I'm just concerned that I won't like it and may want to change it.
And I would also like to have the live/3D wallpapers installed too....
Thanks from a newbie....LOL
Steve

just an fyi, that rom you chose(radioactive 1.8.12) is somewhat unstable. the dev is still working out some bugs. if you want better stability, go with version 1.8.7 found here:

http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/noobnl-Radioactive-FroYo-romv1.8.7.zip

the 1.8.12 has a few problems with random reboots, graphical artifacts, etc.
but yes, just drop the above zip file into the root of your SD card, boot into recovery (vol down+call+end) and apply from zip

OK, I am rooted now and used the rootpack from the original video. I'm using ES File Manager to remove crap etc...
Have live wallpapers installed and running fine....
Seems very stable and all my stuff works great.....
NOW......
If I want to install a custom Kernal do I need to flash the phone again? or can I just copy it to my SD card and install it from recovery?????
I have
ECLAIRE DE03
Kernal 2.6.29

Thanks
Steve

No need to reflash to swap kernels. Just download the kernel and place in the appropriate place on the sdcard and install from recovery.

Thats what I thought, just want to be sure.
Does the same go for the recovery?
I figured I'd go to the kitchen at SDX and add the new 3.1.1 and Meatcurtains to my SD and install from there....Is that the way to do it?
Or should I install recovery first, then Meatcurtains????
Thanks

How do you drop/drag a rom to your sd card?
Should there be something on my desktop for it?
I just rooted it w/ the simple step plan and I'm guesing that it worked because I saw SDX come on my phone screen before samsung did.
I dl's the recommended one on this thread to my desktop but have no clue how to get it onto my phone.
Is there a step by step for putting a rom on your phone?
