Exchange Activesyc - Subfolder synchronisation - any recommended applications?

I have a major issue that my first android phone (Samsung Galaxy S). It does not support auto synching of Exchange email sub folders. This is a show stopper for me (see earlier posting):

There has to be other apps that work well wih this and will not degrate my overall android experiance.

I looked at Dataviz Roadsynch - however latest release slated in market place
I've heard about touchdown but hoping for more feedback

What other options do I have?

Any help greatly appreciated otherwise this thing will have to go back.

In your Exchange Activesync mailbox on the Galaxy, go the MENU, then Select FOLDERS and select the folder you want to sync.

This works on the HTC Aria.

TouchDown for Exchange will sync your subfolders. It is $19.99 in the market. That may seem a bit pricey for an android app but it will manage your exchange account well, synching subfolders, allowing access to the global address list, providing widgets for tasks, email, and calendar, etc. Pretty solid app that has been around for a while.

TouchDown doesn't (or at least on my phone) do HTML email forwarding.

OK I've installed this and am about to go throguh setup. Should I first wipe all my contacts and disable the inbuilt Exchange synch application that came wiht Andriod.
My fear is as can happen with blackberries is that I end up with all my contacts duplicated on exchange.
Or will the Samsung be able to support more then one exchange account application and know to keep them seperate?

If I do need to wipe contacts how best to do it?

Touchdown will keep all of its data separate from the other calendar databases- contacts, calendar, mail etc. Don't wipe anything.

There is a setting under advanced tab to enable HTML Mail.

Correct, and I have it checked, however it doesn't work.

So far all seems good for me. Still getting used to touch screen and sometimes slower then I want it to be but initally touchdown seems excellent and I think I'm a huge fan. I have no issues with HTML so far.

One question, now that I've got touchdown working I might as well turn off the built in android exchange right?
Like you said the contacts were kept seperately and it all seemed to work well, but now do I need the inbuilt exchange synh to be on?
I've also not yet tested how my car bluetooth will handle the synchronisation of contacts.

You can remove the "corporate sync" account now-- except--- the contacts from Touchdown wont sync to your car bluetooth. I dont think they are accessible from any other apps actually. It is one downside of separate databases for sure. However, from your touchdown contacts you can send email, call, or text a contact. You cant access these contacts from the SMS or Phone apps directly.

hmmm bit of a shame, is there a way to every now and then export contcts from touchdown to the mobile phone contacts (Note I am using Samsung Galaxy S which seems to have a feature whcih looks for duplicate contacts from different sources).

The car thing is quite important, don't really want to have to maintain two exchange sync apps just to keep my contacts up to date.

Saying that, I could keep the inbuilt exchange app on manual sync or ONLY contacts sync and just update these. The samsung already handles very well not showing duplicates even wen you have all contact sources enabled (if a contact is in two locations it just indicates the same contact is in more then one DB).

There features may well be android wide, but I'm new to it (lost my Android virginity about 24 hours before writing this)

I don't see a difference between the HTML enabled or disabled in a forward message. Anyone get true HTML email forwarding with Touchdown?

OkI'm liking Adriod but also very frustraed. Maybe it is touchdonw, but it all seems quite slow. Touchdown crashes every now and then alhouh it only leaves a pop up message.
Sometiums say jumping from an email getting back to the phone interface can take a good 20 seconds or so.

Occasionally when typing (which is challenging enough) it will pause for a few secods and then catch up.
Battery life so far is under a day.

I'm used to a basic but fast blackberry like experiacene with my device. I knock out a lot of emails on the go.

Is android not quite there for business yet?

I'm Running the original Mot Droid, and just received my OTA Froyo update (Woo-Hoo!).

Any-hoo... I've been using Touchdown almost since i got the phone (12/09), and it's basically ho-hum okay.

I too find it to be sluggish and prone to crashing. I would be too happy if I could sync exchange mail (inbox, sent items, some sub folders) in the native android mail app. then I would like to see these in combined mode with different assigned colors for each folder. Am I asking too much?

I've had abit of a nightmare with mine. Under heavey use it's luggish as hell. sometimes 30 secs between page changes. I've turned off a few unneccessaires but on a bus heavy email day with a few calls the thing runs like a dog. Is that because of touchdown of the Samsng I don't know. Googling it seems there are a few issues with the Samsung as many are reporting sluggishness.


Anyone else using Android and touchdown?

Better not recycle that Nokia e71 quite yet.

@marballs: Exactly! That is precisely what I am seeing. Touchdown is a nice little app (not $19.99 nice, but nice), but it really seems to under-perform with a heavy load. The last couple of updates have made some pleasant GUI changes. Perhaps the resources would have been better allocated towards performance, no?

Well this is sounding like I might have to say bye bye to android until this is sorted.

Do you know if iphone4 suffers the same performance issues. Is this supposed to be the king when it comes to performance?
