Droid X vs. HTC Droid Incredible

Hey everybody, in the past couple of weeks i was hellbent on getting the HTC evo 4g for sprint, however, I am now unable to. Therefore, I have decided to join some family friends of mine on their verizon wireless plan with data, however I've been stuck between the two monster android phones: The droid x and the droid incredible. Now I've done lots of research, but much of the comparisons between the two were dated before the release of the DX. I have big hands and big pockets, so the droid x would be perfectly manageable, however i am a past user of HTC phones and the HTC sense looks awesome. I also read that i can manipulate the X and all of its motoblur junk to be similar to sense. Now, I'm not much of a social networker, so the motoblur/friendstream doesnt matter much to me, as long as i can put it elsewhere. Not to mention that every store nearby is sold out of the X and i need a phone before the 5th of august in order to transfer my number. I've also heard of a weakness in the incredible's screen due to the track pad.... So I am quite unsure! Could you help a guy out?

eleven moths to see what new is coming out:) I have had the EVO, the Incredible, and the X. I am very happy with the X. If you enjoy a compact phone the Incredible won't do you worng. I like the construction, screen, and battery of the X better. Sprints coverage is not the greatest in my neighborhood so the decision was the same as yours. I am keeping the X, but i have until the 5th of September to decide, which I hope will allow me to test Froyo. Good luck.

The screen on the X is fun because its so big, but the stock launcher is awful. I would say if you want more of a phone go with the incredible but if you want more of a multimedia device go with the X.
I think if you want more of either, go with the X. The X's call quality is much better than the Incredible's. :p (I've had both phones...)

I have both phones. If the Incredible had a 4.3" screen I would stay with the Inc. But the larger screen of the X tips the scales towards it just slightly. But even after all the tweaking (LP and ADW) the UI on the X just doesn't hold a candle to Sense on the Inc. I am currently running ADW with the Sense skin, and it is quite nice and smooth, but still not as nice as Sense UI. However, I also have large hands/fingers, and the bigger screen is nice in that respect. When i use the Inc now the screen seems very small. The X also does't feel that much bigger than the Inc overall, although I do have a case on the Inc and no case on the X. Like others have said, if the screen size of the Inc is fine for you, I would go with the Inc. If the bigger screen of the X is important, go with the X.

Well Sense is still superior to LP and/or ADW on the X IMHO. In fact, I don't think it's even a debate. Sense is smoother, quicker, less glitchy overall. Doesn't mean that ADW/LP aren't close, but they aren't as good IMHO.

Try scrolling up and down a text message in Sense, it's super laggy, worse than anything in Motoblur. Try editing the time for an event in the Calendar in Sense, you have to scroll a little wheel, you can't just type in the time, makes it take twice as long to input info into the Calendar.

There's more but I can't remember all of the issues with Sense at the moment. It's definitely not without it's issues, it does a lot of things worse than the other launchers. Saying it's not even a debate is definitely pushing it.

I was in the same boat as you up until about a week ago. Went into the store thinking i was getting the Incredible but as i looked up more info about the DX I came to the conclusion that this one was the right phone. Simply for the fact that it does everything that the Incr. can do and more. The sense on the HTC is great but as you said before, you can defintly customize all that stuff onto the DX. Its sold out every where but as many have said before its worth the wait. I suggest the DX. Happy hunting.

With my Inc and my X, Sense is smoother and quicker overall. In almost all instances. I am staying with the X, and running ADW with the Sense skin it is almost as smooth as my Inc, but not quite. If you wish, call it my opinion.

At times the X reminds me of the Droid Eris. It has lag and not all the time every time. Some menus, windows, scrolling. It's unpredictable. I've had 2 X's and they both were the same. Will 2.2 cure this?

The launcher is awful. The dialer is equally as awful. The ringtone volume is too low to hear at times. The unlock screen completely sux. The worst lag of all. You will need to download third party apps to fix the shortcomings of the X.

The voice quality is excellent. The reception is stellar. Battery life with the standard battery has been very good for me and now with the extended battery it is really good

The Incredible is buttery smooth. Out of the box the Incredible is a much better experience than the X. Reception and voice quality were slightly below the X. Battery life on the Incredible was poor. I have the 2150 in the Inc and it's really good too. Sense is the best, period.

Screen on the Incredible is amazing compared to the X. When scrolling the screen is buttery smooth. Not so with the X. The Incredible screen is like a vacuum, it sucks you in. LOL. The X, well it's just large. Nothing special. Both screens were equally difficult to see outside when it's sunny.

I like both the soft keys on the Inc and the hard physical keys on the X. Neither was a big deal for me.

So, here I sit with both trying to decide if I'm keeping the X. 8 days to go. LOL

I've gotten a chance to play with Sense on the Evo and it was disappointing and no where near as smooth as LP or ADW IMO. Maybe on the Inc. it's smoother but I thought the EVO was about the same hardware wise. Sense can also be laggy it seems, and its convoluted interface is no match for stock Android or any of the other launchers (again IMO). In fact, after playing with it extensively, I saw no use for it except for the Flash lite which is moot for 2.2. There are better calenders, universal mail boxes and email clients in the Market. If I had an EVO or Inc, the first thing I'd do is wipe it for a stock rom. At least the Moto interface, while not as smooth, is less integrated and less of a 'messy' UI.

As for the Inc. vs X, well, it's really a subjective matter. For me nothing (except for the EVO) comes close to the 4.3" experience. I find myself using my X far more often to browse than I did with any other phone. To go back to anything smaller would be extremely tough. But for those who like Sense or don't care for a bigger screen, I can't see how the Inc. won't be the better device.

This is a pretty good explanation ofhow I feel. Maybe not quite as strongly for the Inc and against the X. And as far as gaming performance - I have seen NO difference between the two. This includes Asphalt, which seems to run just as well on the Inc as the X. On the Inc, I got PSX4droid to work, can't get it to work on the X. The swing vote for me is the larger screen size on the X though - it makes the Inc's screen seem tiny.

What / where do i find these launchers? I ordered my X today and should be shipping on the 7th :( but i wanna learn as much as i can before then
I customized the heck outta my BB so using a non-stock "launcher" is fine, i just need to know what to do to get there :)

Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher are both available on the market for free. There are a few other lesser known launchers (zeam, etc) that you could try also. I prefer ADW with the Sense skin - seems the fastest, with the least lag and the Sense skin is nice since I came from the Inc and like how Sense looks/feels.

just last night my wife traded with me (her DX for my DI) and i jumped on the opportunity for a 4.3" screen. both phones are really nice. both phones have a little lag, DX lock screen is the worst of all. DI battery is gross. hardware buttons are funny when you are so used to soft buttons on the DI. SenseUI was great. but i am interested on seeing the launchers on the market.
my wife likes how the DI fits in her hand (the edgy back is nice). says the DI was made more for girls than the DX.
