Accessories Kenwood KDC BT60U bluetooth update, update.

For anyone who has the Kenwood car HU, I e-mailed Kenwood regarding whether the Desire will be supported & got the following reply

Hi,

Unfortunately we do not have the schedule for BT firmware updates.
There will be one eventually to cover new models of phone, but we cannot say which phones or when the update will be.

These updates are first released from Parrot (who make the internal BT module) to our head office in Japan. It is then evaluated for
suitability then released to the rest of the world. It is only then that we find out which phone models are covered because the web-site will be updated -
Bluetooth Compatibility List | Kenwood Corporation

If you are experiencing any specific problems with the phone when used with the KDC-BT60U, then please let me know; I'll be glad to feedback the information to our head office.

Kind Regards,

Fingers crossed that with the desire being a high end phone then it will be on the list.

Also round of applause for Kenwood customer support who mailed me back within 20 minutes.

Ive recently installed a Kenwood KDC BT60U in my car and it already works perfectly with my Desire. It pairs almost straight away and it then takes around 30 secounds for the phonebook to be downloaded. I haven't had it drop a connection once. I'm currently running Froyo on my Desire which I believe made some changes to the Bluetooth.

I'm running Froyo as well but it doesn't seem to want to download my phonebook, an issue I was aware of when I bought the unit.

I think I may well have to go out and have a play to see if i can get it to sync, well as soon as this bloody rain stops anyway :p

Yeah I heard of other people having issues when I ordered mine. Needless to say I was very happy when it all worked :)

When I paired mine for the first time it came up with a message on the phone asking if i would like to allow the HU to download the phone book. Maybe you selected "No" by mistake ?

Right got my phonebook displaying on my HU. Paired it as normal and entered passcode, then when it asks to download phonebook I just ignored it rather than pressing yes or no and voila. Happy Days

For some reason if i press yes when it asks to transfer phonebook it doesnt work and "downloading" is just displayed on the HU with no progress. Strange but who cares :p

My Kenwood DNX5240BT paired and grabs the phone directory with no probs.

The only niggle I do have is that the head unit displays everyone "<forename> <Surname>," no matter how I set the phone up to display names

Eg. "Bloggs, Fred" on phone but "Fred Bloggs," on head unit. My old LG cookie could send it correctly but no matter how much I change the text or display options on the Desire it insists on messing it up.

Just had the Kenwood BT60U installed. Had a rough time getting it to hook up with the Desire (2.29.405.5), ended up flashing the Bluetooth module on the Kenwood, factory reset the Desire, then it decided to work. Pulls phone book slow though. Still, it works, just a lot of faffing around.

Funny though, the iPhone 4 worked straight away. I thought that would have had the most difficulty, not that I use it as my main phone.

I have installed the Kenwood BT50U , which has the same BT module so i've learned. I can make it work with my Desire, only it takes forever to download the phonebook. I disabled the media in hope it would go faster. It has been working a few times that i got my missed calls and etc... but i have no idea how that came.
I have upgraded the firmware to 3.12 on the radio. Strange thing is that on my Desire i constantly get the message 'Kenwood... is trying to read the phonebook .... allow.. deny.. (always). I check 'always' and allow it to, but yet the message comes again. Strange thing is that i don't see the message, but when i hold the home button i see that the message window immediatly comes back. I think that is the reason why the downloading doesn't complete, it does not seem to get to start to download.

Anyone has a simular problem ? im running the desire on 2.2 and softwareversion 2.10.405.2.
I don't have any problems connecting it to my volvo xc60 incar bt and download the phonebook.

Oh thank god I'm not the only one with problems, here.

From the looks of it, I'm a special case, still. I can pair the phone normally and ONCE I had some numbers in the call list on the Kenwood... but now... I have been tinkering with different ROMS.

Funny thing is, I don't even have to enter a PIN code anymore. The Kenwood will pair, no questions asked! Even changing the PIN on the Kenwood doesn't do squat. I just switched in the stock ROM again, but same behaviour.

I would try not granting or denying the Kenwood access to the contacts, unfortunately, I have no idea how to even get to that point. Mostly those silly things just pair up and that's that.

Any progress with firmware updates?

I bought a BT60U a year or so ago, as on paper the spec looked great. I must admit I have found it a bit of a disappointment and will be going back to Alpine the next time I buy a stereo - nothing is intuitive on the Kenwood, too many menus, and too much taking eyes off the road IMHO.

Anyway, It worked ok initially with my HTC Hero, although the usual 20 minutes to download the phonebook, and even then it was a mess and unusable.

Since I upgraded to an HTC Sensation in August I have been unable to get it to work at all, with constant HF Error 68 messages. I have discovered that if I say "No" to the download phonebook question, it works without errors. However, this means that you have no access to call logs, so it is impossible to register any numbers in the quick dial list (another Kenwood gripe - why can you not enter them by hand?), making it useless for dialling out...

So at least it works after a fashion, but it is an annoyance given that Parrot are supposed to be the leaders in BT car kits...
