Help new to android, new to droid x

just got my droid x, and while im figuring the phone out, id like to know all that can be done. been searching the forums and reading. but still not sure what a launcher is. also is it worth rooting? should I wait until i receive 2.2 update? Im sure all this has been discussed before and dont want to beat a dead horse, but i cant seem to find a thread on what im looking for

Just download Launcher Pro or (ADW?) and see what your home screen(s) now look like and what you can do with them.
Very much worth it.
They "launch" or start your home screens in a way that is much better.

Rooting, IMHO, is only worth it if you want to tether your phone without going thru VZW (at present................. until custom ROMS come)).

we've had custom roms for a couple of weeks, now, i believe.

If you do use Launcher Pro make sure you get home switcher to switch back to stock if you ever want to. I deleted all the widgets on my screens before downloading and installing LP. It made it less laggy IMO. Theres alot of options in LP I liked very much so I upgraded to LP plus for a small donation and I love it.

Also I rooted for free Wifi tethering with easy root. I want to install the leaked 2.2 but I hear some problems ppl are having and being a newb myself I am not sure if I wanna risk trying to fix it myself if something goes wrong......so I am waiting for now

The X is my first smart phone. I downloaded launcher pro and recently purchased the plus version. It does change the apperance of your home screens quite a bit. I like the scrolling dock at the bottom of the screen. I think you might like a launcher program, just try one of them out and see for yourself. If you dont like it, you can always uninstall.
