Apps on microSD Card?

Piracy of "Free" applications?!?!
Isn't that a hoot! Lolz...

If not included in the 2.0 update you will have to root the phone then for this function... from a certain point - not piracy - I can see some sense in disallowing this, i.e., loading 1,000 apps on the card and then wondering why the phone won't work... but I'm not one to accept intentionally disabling function too. So if it is possible they should make it available. Just my humble opinion...

well you have been able to install to SD card on pocket pc devices for years. i have a PRO2 and i have made registry edits to move many files and programs to sd card, such as temp file, cache, cookies, nealry all my installed programs... i can see the android OS folks are limiting it more for the piracy issues than anything else. for example, i am running touchdown on the SD card.. so it can be done....either by the developer allowing it or rooting...

If HTC and Google designed the phones like the Pre or iPhone with 8gb,16gb and 32bg then we would not need sd card, i think that be a better way to go, less limit on apps space the current way.

if HTC designed the phone like the Pre then you would have an arbitrarily decided 20 app limit. i already have over 20 apps, and still have plenty of space. dont forget to clear ur cache regularly.

I have all my apps on my as card, 50+ to be more specific. I do have my Hero rooted with Fresh 0.6b Rom flashed on the phone. I have an average of 120 mb of internal memory free with the cache being cleared every 2 or 3 days.

I am thinking of rooting and installing a custom rom, but I cannot find anyone to answer some questions. One is does the custom rom change the whole look of the phone desktop, are you still using sense UI at that point? Also I would love to be able to install apps to the sd card, remove junk apps to try to speed up the phone. Does this in fact speed up the phone?

Also if you could post a pic of what your phone desktop looks like with the custom ROM I would greatly appreciate that.
