Over the last few months my phone has been getting worse and worse!! Getting slower, loading aps slower, txting through Handcent is ridiculously slow and laggy! The phone is just all around turning to shit!

I have a pretty good amount of aps on the phone, but still plenty of free space. I do have TONS of pics and video tho. I feel like it's acting like my old PC computers would after having them for a while.... super fast and amazing when I first bought them, then slow and shitty after a year or so! That's why I switched to my MAC... I really don't wanna switch to an I-Phone,

...is this happening to anyone else?!?!?!?! Anything I can do?!?!

This is not happening to me at this point. I always see any smartphone like a little computer. They are not like previous phones that were made just that, a phone. Today they are running many apps and even games and people use them a lot, even more for these things than to make phone calls. Saying this, I will keep thinking that a hard reset once in a while, I do this twice a year for my computer because I use it a lot, will keep my phone running as it should be. I am not a lazy person and I do not mind re-installing all back again.

There are definitely things you can do to speed up your phone however, it also comes down to settings, widgets, etc...

A couple of suggestions:

1. Clear your cache.
Setting -> Applications -> Manage Applications.
If you have 2.2, go to "All Apps" and the ones that have cache like email apps can be cleared.

2. You can also adjust your sync times for things like Facebook, Twitter, etc...
Settings -> Accounts and Sync
Click on different accounts and lower the frequency with which they sync.

Aside from that though, if you have received the OTA update to 2.2 and have not performed a factory reset, it is advisable that you do so. Many people, myself included have very positive experiences after a factory reset!

Settings -> SD & Phone Storage (scroll to the bottom) -> Factory Data Reset and choose phone only!

Good Luck!

I have had my phone since 2 days before the official launch and didn't notice too much of a slow down, but it did happen over time. After 2.2 OTA, I did a factory reset, and now my phone acts like it did when brand new (actually a bit faster thanks to 2.2). I know not everyone is a fan, but I HIGHLY recommend it.

As for the Mac comment, you must not have had your Mac very long. I swore off Windows machines a couple years ago due to their constant crashing, freezing, bugs, viruses, etc. and have been Macbook only in the house since. That said, you can definitely see the OS getting slower over time. Again, a clean OS install will fix that, but don't think Apple products aren't susceptible to slowing down over time. My iPod Touch has shown a huge decrease in performance over the years as well.

I understand you are trying to be helpful, but many people are not comfortable with root or how to achieve it. For some, it can be dangerous and cause them many hours of grief. I would ask that unless someone asks about that path specifically, that you do not recommend that as a solution to a problem when there are other viable options!

Are you on 2.2? If not, you should do a clean wipe. Install 2.2, then do another clean wipe. That is what I did.

Typing got very laggy for me on 2.1 after about 4 months of loading apps and surfing web pages and all that stuff.

It's a computer, if you don't clean it up it's going to get slow.

Now that I upgraded to 2.2 with a complete wipe (before and after install) the typing is very fast again with no lag whatsoever.

That is what you need to do. Backup your stuff first if you don't want to manually reload apps. Backup your pics and wallpapers.
