Root Htc evo root with 2.2

Hi! Please keep in mind i am a really big n00b and this. I have 2 problems.
Both of them about rooting.

When i use Unrevoked to root (and i am using 2.2) after i do everything at the end it says "failed to flash recovery image" and the root does not work. I have installed the Drivers you need and everything, but it still wont work.

Problem #2:
Will i have to downgrade to android 2.1 to use unrevoked? i do not want to do that, because i cant find any official android 2.2 roms online (they are all beta roms that were before august 3rd). If i have to downgrade, will they make it possible to root your phone without downgrading?

Bottomline:
Unrevoked says "failed to flash recovery image"
Is it possible (or will it be possible) to root while you have 2.2 without downgrading to 2.1?
I guess I will just wait until there is a different method.

Well, the current method that was released by Regaw on XDA is a downgrade to 2.1 then you would flash a Froyo (2.2) based ROM over it.

Did you follow the video or the text-format version?

I have had problems with unrevoked. I recommend downgrading to 2.1 then using simpleroot, that is how i rooted my second evo. There are several roms based on official 2.2 release. These include but are not limited to fresh 3.2 which is newest, odex 2.2, and baked snack. So, basically all sense are based of the official 2.2 ota update, and here is the link to the official 2.2 rooted rom: HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.26.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed - xda-developers

Somewhere along the line, I'm willing to bet you made a minor mistake. Follow that guide and you should be up and running in no time.
